Special Classes & Activities
Music
TIMS loves music and has always had a music teacher. At least once weekly each class, including the Toddlers, enjoy a class in singing, rhythm and music appreciation.
Gym
The gym teacher, Herr Wirth, instructs the children in physical education twice a week to the 3 – 6 year old children. The TIMS Toddlers have one gym lesson a week. The classes contain instruction in sports, games, gymnastics and movement.
Yoga
Each class also has a weekly half-hour yoga lesson. These lessons involve basic stretching and relaxing exercises.
Library
Each week, each class visits our library, where the children browse and then choose a book to take home for the week. We try to instill real library skills into the children as well as a love for reading and books.
Assembly
Weekly an all-school assembly is held. It is a very special time for all of us. We meet in the gym to sing, recite poems, congratulate birthday children and have discussions of many natures or interest. Each class performs either a song, poem or dance for all the others. This weekly event encourages the children’s self-confidence and introduces them at a very early age to the concept of speaking or performing in public. Furthermore it provides helpful instruction on how to behave as a good audience.
Cooking Lessons
The children’s kitchen at TIMS provides and open-invitation to parents to volunteer to give the children cooking lessons. Weekly parents may cook with a class of children, who then enjoy their results at snack-time.
After School Activities
Each day an after school activity is offered for those who care to participate or need care until 4:15. Some of our current activities are: Gym, Art, Science Projects, Cooking and English as a second language. There is a small cost for these courses.
German
Our German teacher, Frau Lambrecht, gives small streamlined groups of children German lessons 5 times a week for 20 minutes. All of our children learn not only German language ability according to their level, but also about German culture and celebrations. German songs help their progress in language development as well as teaching them about their host country
